What is the best method for ensuring the safety of users’ documents when they are operating remotely? Assume that a VPN connection is available1 person needs an answerI do too

The best method is to Encrypt them. Right click and then chose propertise and then advance and encrypt them.However, also apply sharing policy that only part that should be share share and NOT everything.

There is no one best method. Main thing to realize is that VPN access grants the same level of priveleges as a locally-logged-on user. Therefore, greater care needs to be taken over passwords being kept confidential, etc.If at all possible I would also require home workers to have a fixed IP address, and restrict VPN access to these specified IP addresses.Encryption with the logon password (or keys in the userprofile) doesn't offer any higher security in this context- if an intruder is able to logon, they have the data. To be effective in increasing security, encryption would need to use a separate password or key. Plus it carries a much higher risk of data loss if the encryption goes wrong.Probably the greatest concern is that of disused VPN-enabled accounts remaining open once the user has left the company. This is where Personnel need to be on-the-ball when it comes to informing IT of users leaving.
